PRP Diagnostic Imaging provides dual energy CT Scan (DECT scan) services, offering advanced imaging capabilities to precisely assess your health.
Our DECT scans utilise a sophisticated technique involving low-dose scanning at two different energy levels, allowing us to differentiate between various tissue compositions with exceptional accuracy. This advanced technology is particularly valuable for precisely assessing bone density, detecting the presence of gout crystals by distinguishing monosodium urate (MSU) from calcium deposition, and visualising vascular calcifications.
By analysing the differential X-ray absorption of these materials, we gain detailed insights that conventional CT cannot provide.

Preparation
There is no preparation for this examination.
What happens during the procedure
During the Dual Energy CT Scan, one of our highly trained technicians will ask you to lay on your back on the scanner, or on your stomach if the scan is of the hand or wrist.
You will then pass in and out of the scanner several times.
The scan will take approx 3-5 minutes, after which you will be assited off the scanner and can go home.
No injections are required for this scan.
How long does it take?
Dual Energy CT only takes about 15 minutes to perform. Dual Energy CT is painless and non-invasive.
After your examination
There are no restrictions after having this procedure.
Your images and report
After your examination, you will be given a copy of the most pertinent images from your study. A report will be given to you with the images or sent directly back to your referring doctor by fax or email. PRP will store digital copies of all studies on our secure database for comparison with any future examinations.
Please bring any previous imaging with you for comparison.
It is important that you return to your doctor with your examination results. Whether they are normal or abnormal, your doctor needs to know promptly so that a management plan can be formulated.
