Will my patients’ out-of-pocket costs change?

The majority of imaging examinations performed across the region are bulk billed. Concession card holders generally do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare rebatable imaging.

If an out-of-pocket cost applies, the patient will be advised of any fees prior to their appointment.

Patients participating in a funded government screening program, such as the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP), will not incur any out-of-pocket costs for their screening scan.

Please reach out to your local Business Development Manager to discuss further.

Can I still call through on the same number?

Yes. The phone number remains unchanged, and you will be given priority access to a team member via our reception team, as always

What is happening with cardiac services?

There are no changes to our cardiac imaging services. Referrers can continue to access Cardiac CT Angiography (CTCA), Coronary Calcium Scoring and Cardiac MRI through our experienced cardiac imaging team.

Both cardiologists and GPs can refer patients for CTCA. Specialist-referred CTCA examinations are bulk billed under Medicare. While Medicare does not currently provide a rebate for GP-referred CTCA, we remain committed to keeping patient costs as low as possible to ensure continued access to this valuable diagnostic test.

Please contact our Business Development team to discuss if you would like more information.

What are the benefits for new cardiac referrers?

Cardiac referrers will continue to have access to the same high-quality cardiac imaging service previously provided by GXU Radiology Specialists, including timely appointments, prompt reporting, and experienced subspecialist interpretation.

Combined with the broader resources of the PRP network, referrers can expect responsive service, streamlined referral pathways, and ongoing support for their patients.

Please contact our Business Development team to discuss if you would like more information.

What is happening with oncology services?

PRP has recently expanded its imaging capabilities to include PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanning in the Hunter Region. This strengthens PRP Diagnostic Imaging’s  oncology service offering and supports the delivery of comprehensive, high-value diagnostic care. The addition integrates PET with PRP’s broader imaging modalities, improving continuity of care for cancer patients and their treating teams.

Oncology services will continue as normal.

The integration with PRP provides access to PET imaging, complementing the diagnostic and image-guided biopsy services already offered by Dr Scott Quadrelli This creates a more connected pathway for patients requiring cancer diagnosis, staging and treatment planning.

Referrers can continue to expect timely appointments, prompt reporting and local specialist support.

What are the benefits for new oncology referrers?

New referrers and their patients will gain access to:

  • A trusted and experienced PET service
  • An experienced reporting team across NSW, including 7 Dual Qualified Radiologists and 6 Nuclear Medicine Physicians.
  • Comprehensive case support, including participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
  • Consistent reporting standards for oncology studies including RECIST style reporting
  • Improved local access to PET imaging, reducing the need for patient travel
  • Rapid access to minimally invasive interventional procedures, such as imageguided biopsies (lung, liver and bone)
  • Streamlined communication with specialist reporting doctors

What does this change mean for existing oncology referrers?

PRP currently operates seven PET scanners across NSW, making PRP:

  • One of the largest private PET providers in NSW
  • A leader in consistent, high-quality reporting
  • A provider capable of greater reporting depth and subspecialist support

PET is available at the following 7 practices:

What is PRP’s approach for new oncology referrers?

GXU Radiology Specialists has long been a trusted provider of oncology imaging and image-guided biopsy services across both the public and private sectors.

Through the integration with PRP Imaging, referrers now have access to PET imaging within the same network. This ensures that oncology patients have access to all the imaging modalities they require within the same organisation, ensuring fewer handovers between providers and creating a more seamless pathway through diagnosis, biopsy and staging (including treatment planning).

PRP remains focused on high-quality patient care, timely access to imaging, image-guided biopsy services, and strong clinical collaboration.

With a state-wide PET network, established oncology partnerships, and local expertise in diagnostic imaging and biopsy services, PRP is well-positioned to support referrers across both metropolitan and regional NSW.

Our approach is centred on providing a coordinated oncology pathway, helping patients access diagnosis, staging and treatment planning as efficiently as possible while bringing PET imaging closer to home.
