FAQ's

Will I still receive reports and images the same way?

Yes, you will receive your reports from us in the same way after we complete our system integration.

From 4 May 2026, all reports along with images dated back to April 2024 will be available in the PRP PACS instance https://pacs.prpimaging.com.au/Portal . Images taken before this time will be progressively added, with all records expected to be available by July.

Visit https://www.prpimaging.com.au/referrer/resources/image-access-reports/ to apply for an account.

For assistance please email referrersupport@prpimaging.com.au or call 02 8047 1871 during business hours.

For accessing images from scans performed prior to April 2024 at a former Alto Imaging site, please contact your local Business Development Manager.

Why have PRP Diagnostic Imaging and Alto Imaging come together?

PRP Diagnostic Imaging and Alto Imaging have merged to provide stronger and expanded radiology services for the Hunter Region. This new and larger PRP Hunter network improves patient access to imaging, offering the full suite of modalities under one banner, including services like MRI, CT, PET, Nuclear Medicine and Echo Ultrasound as well as many more. Patients will benefit from having convenient access to more locations with PRP’s high-quality care provided across the entire Hunter Region.

Will the same Radiologists and staff be in the clinics?

Yes. PRP recognises the quality service provided by Alto Imaging and does not intend to make significant changes to our personnel, including doctors and staff. The Alto doctors remain with the added support of the PRP Hunter Radiologists and wider support of the PRP network, including over 60 PRP radiologists across NSW.

Will I still see the same staff in my local clinic, now that the name has changed?

Yes, you will continue to see the same Alto Imaging staff, including radiologists and clinical teams. PRP Diagnostic Imaging values the high level of care that Alto Imaging staff have provided  and will continue to provide. In addition to our local radiologist group, the region has access to a broad range of specialist reporting across more than 60 Radiologists across the PRP Network in NSW.

Is there any change to the way I refer patients?

No. All practices will continue to accept patients on any referral form (Alto Imaging, PRP, GXU or other stationery).

PRP also offers support for referrers to adopt PRP’s advanced eReferral system, and personalised eReferrals, widely used across the state. Visit https://www.prpimaging.com.au/referrer/resources/ereferrals/ for more information or contact your local Business Development Manager

Select PRP in the drop down menu in your Best Practice software.

In your clinics next Best Practice software update, Alto Imaging will be removed as a contact in the list of Imaging providers. For future requests, when using e-referrals, ensure PRP Imaging is selected as your imaging provider. If you have questions or need help with updating this information in your Best Practice software, please contact your local Business Development Manager

Will my patients be able to visit any Alto Imaging or PRP site? How will I receive the report?

Yes. Patients may attend any PRP or Alto Imaging site, and you will continue to receive reports the same way you always have.

Your patients can take their referral to any one of our 10 radiology practices in the Hunter region

From 4 May 2026, all reports along with images dated back to April 2024 will be available in the PRP PACS . Images taken before this time will be progressively added, with all records expected to be available in the PRP PACS by July.

Visit https://www.prpimaging.com.au/referrer/resources/image-access-reports/ to apply for an account. For assistance please email referrersupport@prpimaging.com.au or call 02 8047 1871 during business hours.

For accessing images from scans performed prior to April 2024 at any former Alto Imaging site, please contact your local Business Development Manager

Will my patients’ out-of-pocket costs change?

Out-of-pocket costs can vary depending on several factors, including whether Medicare provides a rebate, if the scan is part of a funded screening program (such as the National Lung Cancer Screening Program), and any government concessions your patient may hold.

The majority of scans performed across the region are bulk billed. If there are any out-of-pocket costs, we will inform the patient prior to their examination.

Please reach out to your local Business Development Manager to discuss further.

Can I still call through on the same number?

Yes. The phone number remains unchanged and you will be given priority access to a team member via the Doctors Direct Line as always.

What is happening with oncology services?

PRP has expanded its imaging capabilities to include PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanning in the Hunter Region. This strengthens PRP Diagnostic Imaging’s  oncology service offering and supports the delivery of comprehensive, high-value diagnostic care. The addition integrates PET with PRP’s broader imaging modalities, improving continuity of care for cancer patients and their treating teams.

What are the benefits for new oncology referrers?

New referrers and their patients will gain access to:

  • A trusted and experienced PET service
  • An experienced reporting team across NSW, including 7 Dual Qualified Radiologists and 6 Nuclear Medicine Physicians.
  • Comprehensive case support, including participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
  • Improved local access to PET imaging, reducing the need for patient travel
  • Streamlined communication with specialist reporting doctors

What does this change mean for existing oncology referrers?

PRP currently operates six PET scanners across NSW. With Alto Imaging joining PRP, the total will increase to seven PET scanners, making PRP:

  • One of the largest private PET providers in NSW
  • A leader in consistent, high-quality reporting
  • A provider capable of greater reporting depth and subspecialist support

PET is available at the following 7 practices

  • PRP Gosford William Street
  • PRP Bella Vista
  • PRP Blacktown Panorama Pde
  • PRP Westmead
  • PRP Shellharbour
  • PRP Orange
  • PRP East Maitland – Formerly Alto Imaging

What is PRP’s approach for new oncology referrers?

PRP remains focused on high-quality patient care, quick access to imaging, and strong clinical collaboration. With a state-wide PET fleet and established oncology partnerships, PRP is well-positioned to support referrers across metro and regional areas and bringing PET imaging closer to home for patients across NSW.
