Introducing Our New Obstetric Ultrasound and NIPT bundles

Are you planning a pregnancy, or have you recently found out that you are expecting?

Our new Obstetric Ultrasound and NIPT bundles are a great way to give you and your baby the highest level of prenatal care while saving money (with our ultrasounds at almost half the cost of some other imaging providers in Sydney).

What is NIPT?

Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is a prenatal screen that looks at DNA from your baby’s placenta in a sample of the mother’s blood. Generation® NIPT  is a safe, easy and effective screening test to identify if you’re at risk of giving birth to a child with a genetic disorder, such as Down Syndrome. The test is highly accurate and able to be conducted as early as ten weeks. Generation® NIPT is suitable for single, twin and IVF pregnancies.

What happens during NIPT?

One tube of blood is collected from the mother, just like any other blood collection procedure. The blood is then sent to Genomic Diagnostics (Generation® NIPT) for testing, and the results of your screening test will be returned to your doctor within 5-7 days.

What happens after the procedure?

Following the blood sample collection, there are no special requirements, and you are free to resume your normal activities. Once your doctor has received your NIPT results (usually within 5-7 days), they will discuss the results and appropriate next steps with you.

There are two possible outcomes: no aneuploidy detected (negative result) or aneuploidy detected (positive result). If no aneuploidy is detected, no further or invasive testing will be required, and your pregnancy will continue to be monitored as normal. If aneuploidy is detected, genetic counselling is offered so you can further understand the results, the options for further testing and the implications.
